Widening Participation & Social Mobility’s Mature Student Project seeks to support mature students to access and succeed in Higher Education, as outlined in the University’s Access and Participation Plan.
To help underpin its work the project team is looking for volunteers from across the University to become Mature Student Champions.
Our Mature Student Champions will play a central role in disseminating good practice across the University in support of our mature students, whilst also supporting the development of initiatives to create an inclusive culture.
We hope to form a Mature Student Champion Network, consisting of staff from across the University’s academic and professional services, of individuals who can be advocates for our mature students, ensuring they are considered in every aspect of the information, support and services we provide.
As a Mature Student Champion we’d ask you to:
- Act as an advocate for positive change in support of our mature students, both prospective and current.
- Disseminate and share good practice within your own work area to support the access, progression and success of mature students.
- Be a point of contact in your department for our mature students, providing relevant information and guidance, as well as signposting accordingly, where appropriate.
- Encourage and support the discussion of specific mature student issues at the University.
- Keep up-to-date with mature student focused initiatives, at the University and to ensure all colleagues are aware of the initiatives.
- Identify and feedback on any support needed, with regards to mature students, within your department.
- Attend four online Mature Student Champion Network meetings per year.
If you’d like to work with us to advance the mature student agenda, learn more about the Mature Student Project and are keen to support this group of students, then why not become a Mature Student Champion?
If you would like to become a Mature Student Champion, please register your interest by completing the registration form by 26 March 2021. You will receive further communication from the project team in early April 2021.
