Invitation to Fireside Chat with Karen Catlin, author of “Better Allies”

Have you ever thought, “I care about creating a more diverse and inclusive workplace, but what can I as an individual really do?” If so, you’re not alone. Knowing how to be a better ally for underrepresented colleagues is unfamiliar territory for many of us.

Karen Catlin is a leadership coach and an acclaimed author and speaker on inclusive workplaces. After spending twenty-five years building software products and serving as a vice president of engineering at Macromedia and Adobe, she witnessed a sharp decline in the number of women working in tech. Frustrated but galvanised, she knew it was time to switch gears.

Today, Karen coaches women to be stronger leaders and men to be better allies for members of all underrepresented groups. Her client roster includes Airbnb, DoorDash, eBay, Envoy, Intel, Intuit, and Segment, as well as entrepreneurs and individuals in tech. Karen is also a highly sought-after keynote speaker, regularly delivering talks about her book, “Better Allies: Everyday Actions to Create Inclusive, Engaging Workplaces.

In this fireside chat with Future Worlds Director Ben Clark, Karen Catlin will discuss how everyone, including startup founders and tech leaders, can contribute to creating a culture of inclusion at their workplace and beyond. This will be a “no holds barred” conversation about the challenges women, Black and minority ethnic people, and other underrepresented employees face in the workplace and how to drive change as an ally.
