Keeping our community safe

With the widespread concerns which have highlighted violence against women, following the tragic death of Sarah Everard last week, you may be feeling anxious about your own safety when out and about.

We care about each and every member of our community and remind you of the services, teams and resources that we have in place to help ensure your safety around our campuses and halls. We’ve also included some links below to support you with any wellbeing concerns you may be experiencing.

Security team

If you’re on campus, you’re likely to spot our friendly security team who are here to ensure the safety of our campuses 24 hours a day, every day. They are our front-line of support. If you need to get in touch with them, you can find their contact details on the back of your student or staff ID card. Find out more about our campus security team.

Report and Support
We recently launched our Expect Respect campaign, and a new Report and Support tool for students.

Whether it’s cyber-bullying, sexual harassment, hate crimes or supporting someone who has experienced this – our online tool provides support for a range of issues, quickly and with compassion. All incidents are taken very seriously. The same tool will be made available to our staff in late spring. Find out more.

Harassment Contacts
Harassment Contacts provide a confidential service to all staff and students who may feel bullied or harassed. They also support those who have been accused of harassment. Find out more.

Health, Safety and Risk team
The Health, Safety and Risk (HSR) team is here to help ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of all staff, students, contractors and visitors. You can find a number of resources, including training materials on their SharePoint site.

Employee Assistance Programme
The University provides all staff with access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) through which colleagues can seek support with a range of life’s difficulties and challenges.
