SIAH webinar: Culture and Post-Covid Regeneration

Join Southampton Institute for Arts and Humanities (SIAH) on Monday 19 April at 2:30pm for ‘Culture and Post-Covid Regeneration’, the first webinar in the series ‘Reset 2021: Policy, Practice and the Arts’. This series, hosted by SIAH, examines key policy challenges of the post-2020 world and the role of the Arts and Humanities in solving them.

The event brings politicians, policymakers, cultural practitioners, and academics together to ask:

  • What roles do culture, and the creative industries more broadly, play in the development of local and regional economies?
  • How do we know that culture achieves change? What does it change, and who is included, when culture is used for regeneration?

Speakers are Louise Smith (Deputy Director for Arts, Libraries and Digital Culture at DCMS); Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson CBE (Leader, Portsmouth City Council); and Claire Whitaker OBE (Director of the Southampton UK City of Culture 2025 bid).

They will be joined by academic panellists including Professor Catherine Clarke (School of Advanced Study, University of London) and Dr Daniel Ashton (Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton).

Professor Nicky Marsh (Associate Dean for Research and Enterprise, Faculty of Arts and Humanities) will chair the event.
