Online workshop – Lived Research Experiences: Ethnography across Disciplines

Ethnography has become a popular research tool among academics from different disciplines.

The Debating Ethnography Group from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites staff and postgraduate students to an online workshop at 11:00 to 12:30 on 24 May 2021 to share their reflections on one or more of the following questions:

  • Why do we need ethnography?
  • How does my research benefit from ethnography?
  • Is ethnography simply a ‘method’?
  • Does ethnography enable new interdisciplinary possibilities?
  • Does ethnography change your discipline or is your discipline changing ethnography?
  • How does ethnographic work get done in highly pressurised university work environments?

To participate:

  1. Submit a video or audio. Share with the group a 3-5 min video displaying your research and its relationship with ethnography. Answer one or more of the above questions. Be creative! Recordings must be submitted in .mp3 or .mp4 format only. Deadline for submissions: 16:00 on 7 May 2021.
  2. Review all pre-recorded material. Material will be available before the workshop. Check the videos and think about how your research and interests relate to those of your colleagues.
  3. Connect with us during the workshop to discuss converging points of interest and potential for synergies and networking.

Please confirm your participation at [email protected] by 30 April 2021.
