Festival of Doctoral Research 2021 – nominate a PGR for a Research or Director’s Award!

Do you know a postgraduate researcher (PGR) who has achieved something remarkable this year, or made a great contribution to the doctoral community?

Nominations for the Doctoral College’s annual Research and Director’s Awards are now open. The awards will form part of this year’s Festival of Doctoral Research, which is taking place online from 9-10 June.

Research Awards

The Research Awards recognise the exceptional contribution of doctoral researchers to a research group, school, faculty or University research strategy. Supervisors can nominate a doctoral researcher who has made a research contribution resulting in a publication of excellent quality.

Director’s Awards

The Director’s Awards are all about celebrating the valuable achievements and contributions that our students have made this year, of any scope or scale. Any member of staff can nominate a PGR for a Director’s Award.

We’re particularly keen to receive nominations that reflect the broader contribution made by PGRs to the COVID-19 response – whether it’s undertaking COVID research or testing, supporting clinical healthcare work, or supporting others’ learning or wellbeing.

We know that not all PGRs will have been in a position to publish their work as they planned due to the impact of the pandemic, so this award is more important than ever to help us celebrate exceptional contributions of all kinds.

Any current doctoral researcher can be nominated in one of the following areas:

  • Education – an exceptional contribution to teaching and learning, e.g working with UG or PGT cohorts
  • Enterprise –success or an exceptional trajectory towards success e.g commercialisation, spin-out or consultancy
  • Citizenship and community – an exceptional contribution to the PGR community or wider University community, e.g mentoring, pastoral support, peer-to-peer support or contributions to a PGR society
  • Public engagement and outreach – an exceptional contribution to a research group, discipline or faculty with University engagement or outreach initiatives
  • Special commendation – for an exceptional contribution that doesn’t fit one of the above categories but still deserves formal recognition

Nominations close on Monday 10 May – visit the Festival SharePoint site and get nominating to help us celebrate the success of our doctoral researchers this year!

All staff are very welcome to join us for this year’s Festival of Doctoral Research, so make sure you save the date and we’ll be in touch soon with further details about the event.
