UoS students shortlisted to join the CGI U programme!

We’re delighted to announce that five University of Southampton students have been shortlisted to join the Clinton Global Initiative University cohort for 2021!

The interest in this initiative was huge and we are very proud of the five students who have been chosen to participate. Three of the successful applicants have kindly agreed to share their projects with us.

First up we have medical student, Charlie Taylor. Charlie is the co-founder, COO and medical lead of Sina Medical Technology; an end-to-end musculoskeletal diagnostic and recovery service in private and public healthcare. Find out more about this exciting start up here.

Our second successful applicant is Computer Science student, Aditi Dutta. Aditi’s commitment focuses on peace and human rights. She aims to tackle violence towards women, be it domestic, in the workplace, or online, in primarily (but not limited to) developing countries. The idea is to analyse, measure and predict patterns of violence and work against it to reduce and prevent it happening in the future.

Our third successful applicant is Jay James. Jay is a postgraduate researcher in Respiratory Immunology and his project is called BrainSTEM. Jay’s background in education and public outreach plays a big part in his commitment to action, which focuses on developing a new yearly science festival to take to local schools in disadvantaged areas, to inspire and encourage students to learn about STEM fields.

Finally, we have Biochemistry student, Joshua King who is focusing his commitment to action on improving financial literacy to alleviate wealth inequality and Electrical Engineering student, Jad Dao who is focusing on STEM education.

To find out more about all of our successful applicants you can head to the Social Impact Lab YouTube channel.
