Scheduled pay negotiations held between the Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) and the five sector trade unions have concluded with UCEA making a final offer. UCEA represents 146 Higher Education employers participating in negotiations, which includes Southampton, whilst the Trade Unions include UCU, UNISON and Unite, who represent staff here.
Following an uncertain year for the whole Higher Education sector, as a result of the pandemic and the financial pressures that continue to face Universities, UCEA has made a final pay offer above inflation which balances affordability with the desire to provide a meaningful uplift to staff pay in recognition of their hard work over the past year.
The headline offer provides an increase of at least 1.5 per cent on salaries, with higher percentage uplifts of up to 3.0 per cent to the lowest spine points in use at Southampton.
All five unions will now take the offer to their respective committees and conferences for consideration, with this process expected to continue until early July.
A further update will be provided later in the year. You can read more on this year’s negotiating round on the UCEA website.
