The Doctoral College are pleased to announce that bookings for this year’s Festival of Doctoral Research are now live.
Taking place online from 9-10 June, the Festival will bring postgraduate research (PGR) students and supervisors together to consider the unique challenges that PGRs have dealt with this year, while celebrating their achievements in the face of the pandemic. We will also reflect on what these experiences mean for our PGR’s futures, and the future of doctoral research itself.
Programme highlights include:
- ‘How to feel like the successful researcher you are: understanding imposter syndrome’ keynote lecture
Hugh Kearns from ThinkWell will explain why high-performing people often doubt their abilities and find it hard to enjoy their successes. - ‘Researching in and on extraordinary times’ panel discussion
Hear from PGRs and staff about their experience of redesigning research projects as a result of the pandemic, using their creativity to take a new approach to their work. - ‘Can we use our experiences before and after the pandemic to build a better doctorate?’ roundtable discussion
Join Dr Heather Mackenzie (Doctoral College Professional Development Programme Manager) and Rosie Cooper (Research CPD Lead, CHEP) to reflect upon the elements of doctoral study that PGR’s miss from ‘before’, but also the elements from pandemic doctoral study that have worked well. The aim of this discussion is to identify the building blocks for a better doctorate and help PGRs to think about how you want your doctoral journey to move forward.
The Doctoral College Awards ceremony
Join us to celebrate the achievements of our PGRs over the past year. We’ll announce the winners of the Doctoral College Awards, Research Awards, 3 Minute Thesis® Competition, Poster Presentation Competition and the Creative Representations of Research Competition.
While the roundtable discussion and the mini motivation boost workshop are ticketed events for PGRs only (bookable via GradBook), all of the other events are open to our wider staff and student communities, including undergraduate and postgraduate taught students.
Alongside the main programme, there are additional activities running from 7-11 June for PGRs to engage with, including voting for the winners of our festival competitions!
