Car parking update – reduced availability over the summer

As the Government continues on its roadmap for lifting lockdown restrictions in England, the University is planning a COVID-secure set of summer activities, and a series of improvement works to our estate, that will have an impact on parking availability.

The projects and events beginning or continuing throughout the summer that will have an impact on spaces include:

  • The demolition of B 45, which will lower parking capacity at Broadlands Road Car Park
  • Resumption of in-person student visit/open days, which will raise parking requirements
  • Preparatory work ahead of Jubilee Sports centre improvements (closing Jubilee Car Park)
  • The continuation of COVID-19 infrastructure:
    • temporary teaching spaces installed on car parks across some campuses
    • the COVID-19 testing facility at Avenue Campus

Colleagues may need to leave slightly more time to find a space. We will continue to monitor parking capacity as we move towards the start of the Autumn term.

As already communicated, colleagues parking on campus should continue to display their 2020 parking permits, until at least 31 July 2021. Further Information on parking permit applications will follow in July.

It is important that you use our online booking system if you have visitors coming to campus to enable our parking team to monitor capacity. The visitor car park on Highfield Campus has significantly reduced capacity due to the above projects, so space is limited.

You can find more information on parking here. We would encourage colleagues to consider the way they travel, and to walk, cycle or use public transport wherever possible in line with our sustainability and carbon reduction goals. Information on these modes is available via our transport pages.

If you are returning to work on campus please speak to your line manager and follow our Health & Safety guidance on the return to work.
