COVID Healthcare Response: Vaccinator Training and PPE

Tuesday 20 July, 18:00 – 19:00

This next event in our COVID-19 series, highlights the vital involvement of our colleagues from the faculty of Health Sciences to support the pandemic. Join Professor Julie Cullen, Head of Nursing, Midwifery and Health, to hear how her team’s collaboration with the NHS workforce played a huge part in the success of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out. Dr Peter Worsley, Associate Professor in Health Sciences, will also take us through the latest research underway into PPE, and how his team are tackling skin damage to frontline workers at the heart of the coronavirus pandemic.

Sailing on the Edge: The Science Behind the Sport

Thursday 22 July, 18:00 – 19:00

Join us ‘in conversation’ with an all alumni line-up, as we explore how engineering and science underpin innovation and success in world class sailing, and the University’s impact on high-performance sport.

We will hear from Professional Sailor Emily Nagel, who will join us fresh from competing in the 2021 Ocean Race Europe, alongside former Simulator Lead at INEOS TEAM UK James Roche, and our own Dr Joseph Banks, Lecturer in Ship Science. This hour-long virtual event will be hosted by Sports Broadcaster and fellow alumnus John Inverdale.
