The University is announcing today that Professor Jonathan Bull has been appointed as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences, with effect from 1 August 2021.
Jon, who is currently the faculty’s Associate Dean (Research), and based within Ocean and Earth Science, National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), will take over from Professor Rachel Mills, who is leaving the University at the end of July. He will join the University Executive Board (UEB).
The recruitment process for a permanent successor as Dean has started with final interviews due to take place in December. The interim period is expected to last around nine months.
Three key strategic leadership responsibilities currently held by Rachel are being re-allocated as follows:
- Professor Phillip Wright, Senior Vice-President (Academic), will assume responsibility for delivery of our Estates Strategic Plan, and will chair the Estates Programme Board (EPB). He will also assume responsibility for delivery of the University’s Sustainability Strategic Plan.
- Professor Michael Butler, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, will assume responsibility for the Technician Commitment.
