In advance of the 2021-22 Promotion and Pathway Movement process, the University Executive Board has agreed the implementation of key changes to the process, which include mechanisms to help recognise and account for the impact(s) of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Key improvements for the 2021/22 promotion process:
- Promotion and pathway movement processes will adapt so that the assessment of applications will actively consider any limitations caused by COVID-19, and determine outcomes accordingly, in a similar way to the consideration of individual circumstances.
- Introduction of School-level panel, who convene close to the application deadline and provide optional feedback on applications, so amendments can be made before submission to the faculty panel.
- Removal of interviews for in-level transfers within the promotion process.
- Clearer application forms, with separate forms for promotion, pathway movement, and promotion and pathway movement concurrently.
- Introduction of a time limited ‘appeals window’ rather than the current open-ended practice.
There will be a virtual Q&A event on the 6 October 2021, hosted by a member of the Academic Promotion Advisory Group, which will be an opportunity to learn more about the promotion and pathway movement processes. Further information on the Q&A event, including how to book a space, will be communicated in due course.
Further information on the promotion and pathway movement process, including the application documents, can be found on the promotion website, and for any queries please contact [email protected]
These processes are applicable to all staff in the Education, Research and Enterprise (ERE) and Research Nurse (RESN) job families, even if employed on research-only or enterprise-only (i.e non-academic) terms and conditions. Members of the clinical job family may also enter these processes for the purposes of seeking an honorary promotion or title change.
