In April this year, the Vice-Chancellor launched a renewed discussion about our University Strategy, a conversation which had been put on hold at the start of the pandemic.
Thank you to all those colleagues who gave their views on the draft foundations of our University Strategy.
Many respondents said they supported the vision and felt the draft foundations were the right base for further development. They also shared helpful recommendations to guide the further development of the strategy’s content and messaging, in particular that it should be relevant and relatable, ambitious, distinctive, short and simple.
Several staff commented more generally on how the strategy related to their own work. A university-wide strategy was expected to provide a bigger picture for the individual, team and the University that would help unite the UoS community and help demonstrate the value of various duties and roles by linking them to clear strategic objectives.
The University of Southampton Strategy Consultation 2021: Phase One report is available here.
The findings have been shared with University Executive Board and Council and are being used to inform the development of the first full draft of the strategy.
The second phase of the consultation will launch in September 2021. At that point colleagues, students, alumni and friends in the city will be invited to discuss and comment on a full draft of the strategy. Managers will be encouraged to have conversations with their teams about how they would like to take part and to encourage their team members to share their views and further shape our strategy. During September and October, our Vice-Chancellor will also participate in a range of meetings and events to discuss the draft strategy with our wider community. This will include engaging with colleagues as part of their local faculty and directorate forums, with civic stakeholders and alumni.
The valued input from our community will once again be used to refine the strategy ahead of a final draft being presented to University Council in late November 2021. We expect the final agreed Strategy to be published in early 2022.
