Alex Neill to step down as Vice-President (Education)

Professor Alex Neill has announced he will be stepping down from his role as Vice-President (Education) in April 2022, as he approaches his 10th anniversary in the role.

Alex, a Professor of Philosophy, then intends to take a period of time to re-engage with his academic portfolio of research and education at the University.

Professor Mark E. Smith, President and Vice-Chancellor, commented: “We will all owe Alex a huge debt of gratitude for his enduring passion for and pride in our teaching, education and the student experience, for his strategic vision, and for the personal values that have always underpinned his leadership. Ten years in this role would be challenging at the best of times, and Alex has also steered us with great skill through the unprecedented demands and uncertainties posed to our teaching by the global COVID pandemic.

“I am extremely grateful to Alex for giving us considerable notice of his intentions, and the process for recruiting a successor as Vice-President (Education) will get underway shortly. We will get chance in due course properly to mark and say thank you to Alex for his tremendous contributions.”
