As you enter the start of a new term, we wanted to remind you of some practical guidance and a few tips you can follow to maintain your health and wellbeing.
Remember to register with a local doctor (‘GP’, General Practitioner)
The quickest and easiest way to register is online, which you can do here for the University Health Service and here for Highfield Health.
You can also find your local GP using your postcode on the NHS Find a GP website.
Remember to bring along details of your medical history and any medications you are using, as well as photographic ID.
International students, please remember to bring along a letter from the University of Southampton as proof that you are a student, along with your passport and any loose immigration documents. You should ask to be added to the list of National Health Service (NHS) patients. This means you will not have to pay a fee to visit the doctor.
Wash Your Hands
It’s so easy to spread germs to one another and not washing your hands makes it even easier to do so! Regularly washing your hands is a simple way to prevent germs from spreading.
Get tested regularly
All students and staff accessing our campuses and facilities are expected to test weekly for COVID-19 through the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) Saliva Testing Programme. In order to receive the test pack, you must follow the two-step registration process, which you can do here.
Grab a jab
We expect all students (and staff) to be fully vaccinated to reduce the risk to themselves and others. Grab a jab in Southampton if you are not fully vaccinated!
Report a positive case
It is extremely important to make sure you that if you are symptomatic, awaiting test results, are self-isolating or have tested positive for COVID-19, you follow Government guidance, self-isolate and let us know by completing this form so we can support you.
Wear a face covering
Face coverings are no longer mandatory by the UK Government, however the University strongly encourages and expects face coverings to be worn in crowded places and indoors when moving around.
Get Enough Sleep
You may have a lot of late nights throughout the semester, but getting enough sleep can really improve your overall health and wellness.
Drink Lots of Water
Staying hydrated gives you more energy throughout the day, reinvigorates your body, stops you from overeating and aids in concentration. It also helps prevent those pesky headaches so fill up your water bottle daily.
