Healthy volunteers required for study on antioxidants and immune function

Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine are looking for healthy volunteers to join a pilot study of the effects of two different antioxidant supplements upon the immune system in healthy adults aged 50-65 years old.

Taxifolin and Ergothioneine are antioxidants which are found in foods such as apples, onions, and mushrooms. In this study these will be provided in capsules which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Researchers will use a variety of samples to assess the volunteers’ immune systems and assess any changes in gut bacteria.

Taking part in this research will help researchers to learn more about how antioxidant supplements could affect the immune system, metabolism or gut bacteria. You will be reimbursed for participation in the study and for reasonable local travel expenses, and invited to an event at the end of the study to hear the findings.

If you are interested in taking part or finding out more about what is involved in the study, please contact the study team at [email protected], 07553 718907 or click here to register your interest.
