Our University, in partnership with the University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU), is launching a Social Mobility Network on 15 December 2021 and is actively seeking members from our community of staff and students.
Network membership is open to:
- Any member of staff or student with a lived experience of a low socioeconomic background.
- Individuals with an interest in social mobility who want to effect positive change at our University.
Co-chaired by Gino Graziano, our Director of Widening Participation & Social Mobility, and Savanna Cutts, SUSU Vice President Welfare and Community, the network aims to meet every six weeks.
Anyone interested in joining the network, or who would like to request further information should email Gino Graziano at: [email protected] or Savanna Cutts at: [email protected]
Aims and goals
The network will shape its medium- to long-term aims and goals using feedback gathered from members. Initially, the early aims and goals of the Social Mobility Network include:
- Providing a clear framework for feedback, where members are able to raise concerns and issues to those best placed to take them forward and enact positive change.
- Shaping itself into an active and participatory vehicle for change that will positively impact both network members and our wider University.
- Helping to connect like-minded individuals.
- Acting as a safe listening space where individuals can share their experiences and talk about both the challenges they’ve faced previously, and those currently being faced.
