Calling all staff interested in Space

You are invited to an open meeting to introduce the Space at Southampton Network on Wednesday 1 December, 14:00 – 16:00 in Building 100, Room 4011 (Harvard L/T B).

Leading Southampton space academics, working with colleagues in the Business Engagement and Tech Transfer Teams, the RIS Communications Team and Public Policy@Southampton, are looking at setting up a Network for everyone interested in the multidisciplinary potential of space research and its applications. All staff are welcome.

Purpose:

  • To increase collaboration between researchers across the University.
  • Facilitate capacity building.
  • Drive increased enterprise and research income e.g. from UKRI, UKSA, and industry.
  • Raise the profile of our space-related activities internally and externally, leading to benefits like increased student recruitment; greater success with funding applications and enterprise contracts; and collaboration with industry.
  • Provide opportunities to develop new teaching modules and programmes, e.g. MSc programmes, which span departments and faculties.
  • Train space sector employees of the future.

Space at Southampton is a growing area. Browse the Space at Southampton 2021 brochure, to discover more.

All faculties link to space, there are fewer research areas with no space relation than you’d think. For example, some of our Health and Biological Science researchers contributed to Why Space? The opportunity for Health and Life Science Innovation report, a white paper published by the UK Space Life and Biomedical Sciences Association in June 2021. The publication was discussed by a panel at the 2021 UK Space Conference.

So come to the meeting, find out more, have a say.

Virtual attendance is available too. To join the event register on Eventbrite here.

The organisers look forward to welcoming you on the day.
