It’s UK Disability History Month and The Student Disability and Inclusion team is taking the opportunity to listen to the experiences of disabled students at the University of Southampton.
The team want to listen and learn from students so that the actions they take, their decisions and the goals they set in relation to services and support for disabled students, are meaningful and based on lived experiences. The learning will feed into the Student Disability Strategic Plan, due for completion in 2022.
The team are keen to hear from a diverse range of disabled students, including those with hidden disabilities, those who consider themselves to be neurodivergent, those with mental health conditions, and those with physical impairments and long-term health conditions.
Between the 18 November and 18 December there will be multiple opportunities for students to share their experience and make suggestions for improvement. These include, Graffiti Walls in The Student Hub and in the Assistive Technology Suite, and Themed Feedback Sessions (online or in person) on key topics such as accommodation, digital accessibility, and sport. Disabled students can also sign up to tour the campus to provide feedback on accessibility, share case studies as part of a planned staff/student awareness campaign and take part in a reverse mentoring scheme to be launched in 2022.
