The University will be flying a purple flag to celebrate and raise awareness of the International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD) on Friday 3 December.
This year the theme of IDPWD is ‘Fighting for rights in a post-COVID era’. More information about the IPDWD movement can be found on their website International Day of People with Disabilities.
In recent years, the colour purple has been increasingly associated with disability. The #PurpleLightUp campaign is a global movement that shows commitment to disability inclusion, appreciation of the economic contribution of disabled employees and is a way to celebrate and connect with disabled people worldwide. You can get involved by changing your screen background in your virtual meetings.
Libby Barton, UoS Disability Staff Network Chair says: “It is fantastic that the University is recognising IDPWD as part of the wider UK Disability History Month celebrations. Recognising the date aims to raise awareness of disability and celebrate the value that diversity brings.”
The Public Engagement Research unit (PERu) will be hosting Research Café 42 for International Day of People with Disabilities on Friday 3 December. Registration is required to attend this in person event through Eventbrite.
The UoS Disability Staff Network welcomes all staff or PGRs who identify as having a disability. If you would like to find out more please visit the Network SharePoint Site or email [email protected].
