The Zepler Institute Research Stimulus Fund: Call for proposals

Small scale research projects and feasibility studies that meet a set of criteria are invited to apply for funding under the Zepler Institute’s (ZI’s) Research Stimulus Fund.

The fund is supported by Research England’s Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF), which is awarded to the University to help foster collaborations with industry and other external stakeholders.

A total of £80,000 funding is available in the 2021-22 round. Projects and studies, which must involve non-academic partners, must:

  • Be led by an Early Career Researcher / Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow (strongly favoured)
  • Involve interdisciplinary collaborations with investigators based in a School or Faculty outside of the ZI (strongly favoured)
  • Have strong current relevance, for example meeting industry needs, alignment to the Industrial Strategy Grand Challenges and/or key themes of the Government’s 10 year R&D Roadmap, or the UK Innovation Strategy
  • Be designed to lead on to large-scale research grant applications which involve industry partners and use of the ZI Cleanroom Complex
  • Support student projects in achieving an increased benefit through their engagement with knowledge exchange activities. This may include building entrepreneurial skills, or could be related to engaging students with business innovation and/or building commercial skills.

The deadline for applications is 17:00 on Monday 31 January 2022.
