On Tuesday 15 February at 11am we will be holding a memorial service to celebrate the life of Laura Lee, who sadly died in December. It will be taking place at the Jubilee Plaza on Highfield Campus (between the Hartley Library and Buildings 85/32).
Laura had worked in the Careers and Employability Service at the University of Southampton since 2015. She was instrumental in launching the first University-wide placement programme, Year in Employment, and gave students confidence when they were apprehensive about progressing into employment. Laura was also passionate about supporting disabled students, and proactively started a working group alongside colleagues in Careers to have more focus and knowledge helping disabled students to navigate the labour market. In September 2021 she fulfilled her ambition of working more closely with disabled students and was successful in joining the Student Disability & Inclusion team as their first Faculty liaison lead. In the short time she was with the team she made a truly valuable contribution.
Kelly Holder, Assistant Director of Student Services said “All who knew Laura would describe her as someone with the kindest of hearts. She was always willing to take on a challenge and made enviable working relationships that meant she was liked and respected immediately by all she met, always showing great empathy, dedication and collegiality. Our deepest condolences are with her family at this time, and she will be greatly missed by her colleagues.”
The memorial service will be supported by the University Chaplaincy, and all who would like to attend the service are welcome.
