Accessing support for your health and wellbeing

As Semester Two has begun, we want to remind you of some practical guidance to maintain your health and wellbeing.

Register with a local doctor

We encourage all our students, UK and international, to register with a local doctor (also known as a ‘GP’ – General Practitioner). Your doctor can support you with both your mental and physical health.

The quickest and easiest way to register is online, which you can do here for the University Health Service and here for Highfield Health

If you are based in Winchester or another location, you can also find your local GP using your postcode on the NHS ‘Find a GP’ website.

Remember to bring along details of your medical history and any medications you are using, as well as photographic ID.

International students

Please remember to bring a letter from the University of Southampton as proof that you are a student, along with your passport and any loose immigration documents. You should ask to be added to the list of National Health Service (NHS) patients. This means you will not have to pay a fee to visit the doctor.

For more information about registering with a doctor, visit this page

Use the right service for healthcare

The UK has different available options so you can get the right support and healthcare at any time. The ‘Use the right service’ website breaks down each healthcare service you can use. Visit the website for advice on what service to use in different situations.

University support for wellbeing and safety

Being a student at university can bring some challenges and can affect how you are feeling. Our student support and wellbeing services are there to help you, whatever your need.

The Student Hub is your first point of contact for questions and concerns relating to fees, financial support, accommodation, wellbeing, disability, careers, and course administration. They are available 24/7 to support you.

If you would like to speak to someone about your mental health and wellbeing, you can email [email protected], or call +44(0)23 80599 599. If you wish to speak to someone in person, please visit Building 37 on Highfield Campus.
