Semester 2: An update on COVID-19 testing

Students and staff who are accessing our campuses and facilities are expected to test twice a week this semester.

We recommend taking two saliva tests each week, ideally 3-4 days apart, and then topping up with a lateral flow test if you need a quicker result to access and event or venue. You may also need to use lateral flow tests if you are a fully-vaccinated contact of someone who has tested positive.

You can find out more about the programme and sign up at southampton.likn.co/testing. Remember that registration is a two-step process and you must complete both steps to take part.

New sample pots (and reusing your old ones)

From next week, saliva testing participants should try to use the latest sample pots. These have a white label with a fill line (pictured below). Most people are already using these, but if you still have older pots, you can pick up a new pack next time you are on campus. You can find a list of collection points on SharePoint. Visit southampton.likn.co/testing and click through to SharePoint.

If you have unopened old packs (those collected before November 2021), these can be returned to the Building 38 collection point for use elsewhere in the NHS. Individual pots can be recycled at the University but you might want to consider reusing them instead. We’ve added some ideas on SharePoint. Please note that the pots cannot currently be processed in  your residential recycling outside of the University.
