University Mental Health Day (UMHD) is taking place on Thursday 3 March – a day to bring together university communities across the country to make mental health a priority. UMHD is run jointly by Student Minds and the University Mental Health Advisors Network (UMHAN).
There’s plenty of ways to get involved on the day. Highlights include:
- ‘In conversation with… Jay Unwin: The cheer and challenge of university’: 14:00 – 15:00, Student Hangout Space, Building 37 – join speaker, consultant, author and UoS alumnus Jay Unwin for a discussion on how university can have both positive and negative impact on your mental wellbeing, and why it’s important to be aware of how you’re feeling. Learn how to get the most from your time at university by keeping yourself fit and well in body and mind.
- Paint your own plant pot: 14:30 – 17:00, Faith and Reflection Centre, Building 6 – trying something new and being creative can boost our wellbeing. Drop in to paint your own mini plant pot and take it home, complete with a plant from our selection.
- Wellbeing chats and head massage: 15:00 – 18:30, Hartley Library – the Student Wellbeing Team will be available to chat about your wellbeing. Between 15:00 – 18:30, you can get a free 5-minute head massage to help you unwind. Sign up on the day – first-come, first-served!
- Scavenger hunt: All day, Highfield Campus – if you find yourself rushing between lectures without having time to take in your surroundings, our scavenger hunt is a chance for you to take a mindful walk around campus while spotting hidden Be Active stickers. Once you’ve found a sticker, simply submit a photo to the Playwaze app to be entered into a prize draw to win a £20 amazon voucher – or a £50 voucher if you snap all 5 stickers. Prize winners will be announced at 18:00 via Playwaze and on the Be Active Facebook. Visit SharePoint for more information including deadlines and instructions on using the app.
Visit the Student Engagement Events SharePoint site for more information about all the events above plus more. Keep an eye on SUSU’s website to see what’s on.
