In the first of a series of events hosted by Professors Rebecca Hoyle and John Holloway, Associate Vice-Presidents (Interdisciplinary Research), this sandpit will explore how our responses to societal challenges are shaped by narratives on all scales.
This includes from the personal to the global: from the internal monologue that accompanies a decision to act or not to act, to David Attenborough’s film-making, and world leaders’ testimonies of unfolding climate emergencies on the stage of COP26.
The Narrative, Storytelling and Societal Challenges Sandpit, is on Monday 28 March 2022, 09.15 to 16:30 at Wide Lane Sports Ground in Eastleigh, Southampton. The event will bring together potential collaborators from across the University to share research interests and ideas.
Expressions of interest to take part in the sandpit can be submitted via this form. The deadline is Monday 7 March 2022.
The aim of the event is to create connections and begin conversations between researchers from diverse disciplines and perspectives, leading to ideas for potential new research projects and grant applications.
At the end of the event, participants will be invited to bid for funding from a pot of £30,000 to support innovative pilot projects emerging from the day.
The sandpit is open to research and academic staff at the University. An interest in interdisciplinary research and a willingness to explore areas outside of your own expertise is important.
