Celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow

International Women’s Day (IWD) is tomorrow (Tuesday 8 March) – an opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements and campaign for equality for women at home, at work and across the world. This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias and we have a series of thought-provoking events for our community to join.

What’s on

  • Working Towards Overcoming Gender and Racial Bias in the Psychological Professions: A pre-recorded video Q&A with Dr Margo Ononaiye (Programme Director for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme) and Research Student Tessa Thomas. The first in a new Personal Stories series, this session talks about the experiences and challenges faced by women of colour in the field of Psychology.
  • Celebrating women working in STEM supported by RAF Engineering, Tuesday 8 March, 11:00–11.45: WISE is hosting a webinar, celebrating women in STEM. The webinar will showcase the variety of roles, career progression opportunities and best practice within RAF Engineering. It’s a chance to hear from inspirational role models at entry, mid-career and leadership level within RAF Engineering.
  • International Women’s Day online event, Tuesday 8 March, 18:00–19:00: This event will showcase three high profile and influential women from our academic and alumni community. Read more about our Inspiring Women event here.
  • Social Impact Lab’s #SpeakerSeries, Tuesday 8 March, 18:00-19:30: Want to learn how to start your own successful social enterprise? Veronica Gordon, founder of Our Version Media, will join Dr Pathik Pathak to discuss her social entrepreneurship journey and celebrate women who #BreakTheBias. Her company’s mission is to increase the positive and authentic representation of Black and other communities demonised by the press by teaching digital media and journalism skills to tell their own, real-life stories.
