Bloomberg champions: UoS students win prestigious competition

Students in the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), under the Southampton Business School (SBS), competed in the intensive Bloomberg Olympiad competition from 27 February to 6 March.

Hosted by TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), our students competed against top universities across India in this one-of-a-kind intensive event.

The competition offered the unique chance to test the students’ knowledge of the Bloomberg Terminal – a system used by finance professionals across the word – while applying and testing the understanding of the theoretical concepts and fundamentals of finance.

Coached by finance academics from the SBS, students from disciplines spanning mathematics and economics came together to represent the University for the second year running.

Led by our very own SBS academics Dr Ahmad AL Maiitah and Chris Andreou, the team flew through the rounds to the final stages, before being crowned as the Overall Winners of the 2022 competition

Dr Rob Angell, Associate Dean International of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said:

“This is testimony to the students and the supervisors who lived in the Bloomberg suite throughout the week of the competition, competing at the most antisocial of hours. The competition is very well known in finance and economics circles across India and so we are very, very proud of our students – Jacob Collins, Charles Newton, Matthew Palmer – for representing the University so well.

“We are delighted that this achievement has brought together so many people from across the schools in the faculty and demonstrates the practice of interdisciplinarity in the social sciences.

“We are also fortunate to have such a brilliant partner in TAPMI who not only collaborate on research, but also facilitate opportunities for our students to flourish.”
