In celebration of Transgender Day of Visibility yesterday (Thursday 31 March), we raised the flag at Highfield Campus to recognise the resilience and accomplishments of the transgender community and in act of allyship with our students and staff who identify as trans.
It’s important for us to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment at the University that recognises an individual’s gender identity, and for students and staff to share their gender identity or trans status should they wish.
As part of the day, we celebrate the trans people amongst us, raise awareness about the struggles they face and advocate for more protected rights for them in a bid to reform society and empower this community.
How to be an ally
One of the simplest ways to be a strong ally is to educate yourself. It’s important to have conversations with the trans people in your life, but it’s also important for you to seek out resources and information on your own. Here’s a few useful places to start:
