Students through to Enactus UK National Competition final

Students from the Enactus Southampton society are through to the final round of the Enactus UK National Competition for the second year in a row where they will compete to represent the UK in the Enactus World Cup 2022.

Enactus is a not-for-profit global organisation that works to mobilise university students to make a difference within their communities while developing their skills to become socially responsible business leaders.

The final – taking place on Monday 11 April – will bring together students, staff and senior UK business leaders for a day of celebration, collaboration and chance to take an exclusive look into the evolution of social business, the potential of our youth, and the future of our planet.

The team will be presenting their ‘Seeds for Thought’ project at the final which uses hydroponic technology to improve health and wellbeing. Hydroponics is an innovative method of growing plants without the use of soil – it uses up to 95% less water and has much better space utilisation compared to traditional farming. This year, the student team is led by Geography and Environmental Science student, Victoria Wiesmath. Talking about Enactus and the competition, Victoria said:

“This year, Enactus Southampton is proud to be in the top five teams in the UK, having the great opportunity to present in the Enactus UK national final for the chance to represent the UK at the Enactus World Cup in Puerto Rico.

“Sustainability, innovation and education are three key values that drive our projects, actions, and mindset here at Enactus Southampton. We want to educate the next generation of pioneers to continue the changes we are making.

“I could not be prouder with what we have achieved. The team took on this challenge with determination and enthusiasm. None of this would have been possible without them so a big thank you to: Gracie, Tara, Yasmine, Jonathan, Samy, Khalid, Bronwyn, Vinesh, Aleksei, Etien, Lena, Eshaa, Jessica, Joshua and Ivan.”
