Southampton host first-ever UK Chinese football tournament

Last weekend (Saturday 30 April), the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) at Southampton organised the first UK CSSA 7-a-side football tournament at Wide Lane Sports Ground in Southampton.

With 14 teams from across the UK competing in four groups, followed by a single-elimination playoff stage, the ‘Neither Fish nor Fours’ team from London were victorious and placed first. They took the win over our team, the ‘Southampton Commons’ team who came second, with ‘Team UCL’ from University College London as the third-place runners-up.

Talking after the event, organiser and first year student Yimeng Hu (MA Global Advertising and Branding), said:

“The tournament was a great success, and our guests from afar have expressed high praise for our 3G venue and our hospitality. Some teams even praised it as the best Chinese football competition they have ever participated in. I attribute this to the great support given to us prior to the event by the Support and Wellbeing Team at the University, as well as the reliable support from our CSSA staff. Well done to all the teams involved!”

We’re excited for more similar events taking place throughout the year, keep an eye on SUSSED and the Sport and Wellbeing social media accounts for announcements and opportunities to get involved:
