EPSRC CDT call: Preparations are underway

A call for proposals for EPSRC Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs) is anticipated to be made imminently by EPSRC – so the University is making preparations for success.

The call is expected to be announced in Q4 of 2022 or Q1 of 2023. The previous call, in 2018, funded 75 CDTs and another 16 with a focus on Artificial Intelligence.
An internal call for initial expressions of interest is currently open and will close at 5pm on Wednesday 25 May 2022.

CDTs are primarily for training cohorts of students – not for research. Bids must evidence the need for the students that will be trained, outlining the demand for their expertise, what they will go on to do, and how we will train them for their future. Support from non-academic partners will be important to ensure we can demonstrate this need.

Information on the anticipated call and internal process is available on SharePoint.

A Town Hall meeting was held on Monday 25 April 2022 to share early thinking on the call and internal steps being taken in preparation. The meeting was hosted by Professor Mark Spearing, Vice-President (Research and Enterprise), Professor Chris Howls, Director of the Doctoral College, Professor Robert Wood, Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and Jon Williams, EPSRC lead in RIS.
