Diabetes Prevention Week begins today

Next week is Type 2 Diabetes Prevention week and Health and Wellbeing, part of the Health, Safety and Risk Directorate, would like to offer you the opportunity to have a health and fitness check on Thursday 26 May 2022.

Type 2 diabetes can cause serious long-term health problems but it can be prevented by eating a healthy, balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly.

The health check consists of blood pressure measurement, weight, body fat, BMI and an optional urine test to check your Glucose levels.

Using the YMCA 3 minute step test we will measure your aerobic fitness. Participants step up and down, on and off an aerobics-type step for THREE minutes to increase heart rate and to evaluate the heart’s recovery rate during the minute immediately following the step test exercise.

Appointments can be made via eventbrite and will last up to 30 minutes.
