Clearing 2022: Can you help make it a success?

A-level results day on Thursday 18 August will mark the peak of our Confirmation and Clearing activity. During these frenetic few days in the annual cycle, we will confirm almost 5,000 undergraduate students, handle over 10,000 telephone enquiries, process 1,500 clearing applications, and respond to thousands of emails, as well as many social media interactions.

Once again, we need your help to make sure we are successful.

To help ensure we are able to welcome as many clearing applicants as possible, we are looking for staff from across the University to complement the Admissions Team during this period. Staff will primarily be assigned to our Clearing Hotline and as such will be handling calls from applicants seeking to secure a place at Southampton. In addition, we run a smaller Confirmation Hotline which deals with calls from applicants who are already holding an offer at Southampton and we’ll likely need support here too.

We are planning to locate our hotline teams on campus this year. However, our contingency planning includes a remote option, so you should therefore be prepared to work either on campus or from home. Regardless of the location, we’ll be using the MS Teams platform to receive the calls to the hotline.

We need people who can work on Thursday 18 August and a smaller number of staff on Friday 19 August.

Full training will be provided. Should we find ourselves needing to switch to a remote operation, we will also support you to set up and configure Teams appropriately in the run up to the marks release.

If you are able to support this event, please complete the following form by Friday 1 July, ensuring that you have first signed off your commitment with your line manager:  https://forms.office.com/r/p1FXNDxUfh

Should you have any questions, please contact [email protected]

Thank you very much in advance for your support.
