The University of Southampton has risen two places to 13th overall in the Complete University Guide 2023.
This is the third consecutive year that Southampton has improved its position in this annual ranking of 130 UK institutions, that now sees us ranked 9th in the Russell Group.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith said:
“This is really encouraging news, and I’m particularly pleased to note a third consecutive rise in the Guide rankings, showing that not only are we a top UK University – but one that continues to consolidate our position.
“This couldn’t be achieved without the great efforts and expertise of colleagues and students across the University, and I would like to thank everyone in our community for their dedication through challenging times to ensure the success of our University and those that study here.”
Overall placement in the table is based on several criteria:
- entry standards
- student satisfaction
- research excellence and intensity
- graduate prospects
- student-staff ratio
- university spending on services and facilities
- graduates receiving a first or upper second-class honours degree
- and degree completion
