We celebrated the end of the academic year in style with a range of events as part of Summer Festival 2022 – a collaboration between the University of Southampton (UoS) and Southampton University Students’ Union (SUSU). The festival was open to all students to take part, whether that meant crafting, goat yoga, sports, or music. Here are a few highlights:
The festival started with the first-ever Colour Fun Run, as part of the free UoS Be Active programme. Over 150 students came together at Wide Lane to run a 3km course while throwing colourful powder in the air (and at each other).
We spoke to a couple of the race finishers, Olivia and Tom, who had just completed their second year studying French and Spanish, and Xian, an Education postgraduate student. All agreed that the event was an opportunity to do something fun and new at the end of the semester. While Tom and Olivia took the opportunity to attend an event together before they part ways for their years abroad, Xian wanted to do something special between finishing assignments and working on her final dissertation.

The following week saw students relaxing and listening to live music on the Redbrick, as well as getting involved in photobooth sessions, where they could decorate their own photo frames afterwards.
There were also several exciting and unique active sessions. Students enjoyed the company of adorable goats for Goat Yoga, trying out stand up paddleboarding along River Itchen, and others got colourful (and competitive!) with UV table tennis.
Summer Festival would not be complete without the tasty side of the programme. From decorating doughnuts and toastie time, to delicious Mr Whippy ice cream from the van parked up next to the Redbrick, there were plenty of free treats for students to celebrate and enjoy the summer send-off!
Until next time #UoSSummerFest…
