There are still places for staff and students at today’s update about the Strategic Plan – Sustainability at 12:30 – 14:00 with an introduction by our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mark E. Smith.
This is a hybrid event so you can choose to join online via Teams or in person in B32, Lecture Theatre 1015 Highfield Campus. If you want to join in person, there will be a finger buffet available from 12:00 to 12:30 in the foyer in front of the lecture theatre, 1015.
Please register using Eventbrite and tell us whether you are joining online or in person.
If you are joining online, this is the link to the Teams meeting.
The sessions are being run by the Sustainability Implementation Group (SIG) which is overseeing the implementation of the Strategic Plan – Sustainability which was launched in 2020.
What will I find out at the event?
You will hear an overview of the Sustainability Strategic Plan and progress against each of our six Goals to date. This will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A panel session up to 13:30.
In person attendees will then have the chance to informally discuss the Strategic Plan and/or Goals with the Goal Champions/Leads and core SIG team until 14:00.
Background
The University’s vision for 2030 is that sustainability will be a part of everything we do: our individual behaviours, how we work together, and how we make decisions for the future. This is key to achieving our mission of changing the world for the better and delivering on the new University Strategy.
The University’s Strategic Plan – Sustainability, forms an important contribution to this delivery and has defined a programme of work (the Sustainability Implementation Programme) to achieve our sustainability ambitions. The programme is organised into six Goals:
- Goal 1: Reduce Scope 1 & 2 to net-zero by 2030
- Goal 2: Measure our total emissions footprint and set targets for Scope 3 emissions reductions
- Goal 3: Adopt a value-based approach to reduce emissions from business travel
- Goal 4: Ensure that sustainability is a part of every University education programme by 2025
- Goal 5: Make sustainability a cornerstone of UoS’ research and societal impact
- Goal 6: Implement a sustainable and ethical investment policy
Each Goal is spearheaded by a Goal Champion and the work to implement each Goal’s work programme is co-ordinated by a Goal Lead who are members of the cross-University Sustainability Implementation Group (SIG).
The SIG has been tasked with setting and leading the Sustainability Implementation Programme under the oversight of the University’s Sustainability Strategy Board.
