Our new Library system goes live in July

To enhance the experience of our students and staff, we are implementing a new library system from Wednesday 20 July. The new system, OCLC’s Worldshare Management Services (WMS), will encompass all our library locations.

The implementation of this new system plays an important part in modernising our student experience and supports us in our mission to provide world class teaching, research and enterprise.

The following features are included in the new system:

  • access to the full collection including all databases and across our libraries via one system
  • one single search to access all the resources
  • enhanced search capabilities allowing you to filter your search
  • integration with reading lists for a better user experience
  • improved compatibility with mobile devices
  • easy citation of references with links to EndNote
  • easy sharing of links to resources

The new system will be implemented from 18 – 20 July.

What is changing?

One of the main changes is the single search facility. Instead of searching WebCat (ebooks) or DelphiS, you will only need to perform one search: ‘Search University of Southampton and beyond’.

WebCat and DelphiS will be retired on 31 August. You will still be able to use these services until this time, however, we recommend that you start using the new Library search from 20 July to take advantage of the new features.

You’ll also notice that if you are already logged into your University account, you will be automatically signed into the Library system when you click ‘Sign in’.

What support is being provided to help with the transition?

Additional details are available on the Library News page and you can also refer to our FAQs. Library staff will also be on hand to help with any enquiries after the system has been implemented.

For NOCs, NHS and external Library patrons, information about the new system will be emailed out this month.

Will there be any disruption during the implementation phase?

Laptop loans and book holds will be unavailable from 18 to 20 July whilst we transfer information from one system to another.

You will still be able to access WebCat and DelphiS to perform searches during this time.

Where can I find more information?

More information is available on the Library news pages.

What if I need support using the new system?

Library staff across our sites will be able to help you or you can email [email protected].
