At the end of July, the University will make recognition payments of up to £300 to our valued community of casual workers. These payments, for active casual workers who have performed work for us this academic year, recognise a wide range of important roles conducted by our casual workforce, including student helpers, learning support staff, exam invigilators, postgraduate demonstrators and many more.
Following April’s employee recognition payment, we have been examining ways of saying thank you to our casual workers in a similar way. With the recent introduction of important changes to the way we administer casual pay, which resolve earlier technical obstacles, we now have the ability to make this month’s recognition payment to active casual workers. Colleagues from UCU tabled a proposal in support of such a payment, for the University’s consideration, and this has informed our thinking. All of this has been supported by a positive financial outturn for the University this year.
