Following the launch of our University Strategy in January, a suite of strategic plans, which will underpin and ensure successful delivery of the strategy, have been in development. There have been a range of opportunities to shape some of these plans and the University Council will next week begin to discuss them.
Estates Strategic Plan
In its 70th anniversary year the University is launching its new Estates Strategic plan. This will see a significant investment in creating the optimum environment for students to learn, world-class research to take place, and to enable collaboration and innovation with businesses and other stakeholders.
The University has ambitious plans to be carbon neutral by 2030. To support this goal old buildings will need to be refurbished and new buildings will be designed to be environmentally sustainable.
As part of its civic responsibility the University is committed to working closely with its local authorities and in particular with Southampton and Winchester city councils to contribute to and align with their latest Local Plans. This collaboration is essential if we are to engage with our local communities to design the new buildings and an environment that are both appropriate and inclusive.
The University has already made progress in starting to transform its estate with the recent demolition of the South Stoneham Tower; the acquisition of the Sir James Matthews building in Guildhall Square; the adoption of the former Lloyds Register building, the £40M plans to extend the current sports provision on the Highfield campus and improve and refurbish its sports pitches and water sports facilities.
You are invited to read our Estates Strategic Plan and to share your initial questions and thoughts about how we are taking forward this exciting new plan. In the months ahead, there will be opportunities to comment on individual projects and developments within this plan.
