The Technician Commitment Implementation Group (TCIG) submitted our Self-Assessment and Action Plan to the Science Council in December 2021, following a rigorous 6-month period of surveys, data collection, analysis and narrative assessment. We received feedback from the Science Council in May 2022 and are pleased to announce that the comments were overwhelmingly positive.
The Science Council summarised that “Southampton have been very proactive in work around the Technician Commitment. They have strong leadership and management which has enabled them to deliver on the previous plan and submit a well-structured and progressive 36-month action plan. There are some fantastic successes which the team should be proud of and share with the wider technical community. The panel was very happy to see the start of culture change. It’s important to now build on that momentum going forward.”
The report continued to note that “overall this is an excellent report and action plan, with evidence of sector leading practice. Southampton should be warmly congratulated on their progress, impact and success.”
The Science Council also included some suggestions for improvement, which will impact the work of the TCIG in months ahead. The TCIG is now reviewing its action plan based on the Science Council’s feedback and is reflecting on other recommendations that will impact all future submissions.
