Two changes within the Professional Services leadership team are being announced today.

Highfield Campus near Health Sciences Building

Mary Hurst, has been appointed to the role of Director of Faculty Operations for a one year period, and will become a member of the Professional Services Executive Group.

Previously the Associate Director of Faculty Operations (ADoFO) for the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences (FELS), in this new role Mary will focus on management of the faculty ADoFOs, developing the Faculty Operating Service (FOS) across the University in partnership with professional service directors and Faculty and School leaders, and supporting the Vice-President (Operations) with the development and delivery of the new Organisational Excellence Strategic Plan.

Barbara Halliday, our General Counsel and University Secretary, is retiring this month after nearly 20 years at the University. Any legal issues should, as now, be raised with the Legal team, led by Letitia Baldock, our Director of Legal Services. To find out more about how to get help on a new matter, please go the Legal Services portal.

Wendy Appleby, Vice-President (Operations), commented: “Mary brings a wealth of experience to this role from many years working at Southampton in both central and local teams, and will play a key role as we develop our professional services in partnership with academic colleagues to support delivery our new University Strategy.

“I would also like to thank Barbara for her commitment and loyalty to the University spanning nearly two decades, and wish her every happiness in her retirement.”
