Alison Johns, Chief Executive, Advance HE said;

“Congratulations to each and every new National Teaching Fellow and CATE team on this fantastic achievement. At Advance HE, we run the prestigious NTF and CATE awards for the UK higher education sector with enormous pride. The challenges of offering an outstanding teaching experience in recent years have been very demanding, but the sector has risen to the challenge.”

Dr Zwolski said on receipt of his award;

“I am thrilled. When I first heard about NTFs some years ago, I thought this award would be beyond my reach because, in my work, I focus on both education as well as my disciplinary research (International Politics). The fact that I got it shows that academics on all pathways, including balanced pathways, should feel confident to consider applying when they are ready.”

Kamil is committed to improve student learning through high-impact pedagogies of gamification, staff-student partnerships and research-informed teaching. His current research and education activities revolve around the European Union’s Jean Monnet Chair award to enhance European Studies education at the University.

In 2019, Kamil received the Southampton Students’ Union Academic Award for his innovative staff-students partnership initiative, allowing students to work with staff on assessment and feedback. For this initiative, he was also announced the Finalist of the 2019 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards. As part of his Jean Monnet Chair award,  Dr Kamil Zwolski began researching and popularising research-informed teaching in European Studies and International Relations. To that end, his annual Jean Monnet Workshop’ Research-informed Teaching in EU Studies’ offers an inclusive and encouraging space to exchange knowledge and best practice among EU studies teachers.
