Saturday 27 August 2022 heralds the sixth year of Southampton Pride. It is a free fun day for all ages and includes a variety of stalls and activities to get involved in, as well as live music and performances.
The University of Southampton is proud to be involved in this event again and the University’s Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network will be taking part in the Pride March. The University seeks to uphold the Strategic Plan – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion to build an inclusive community where all staff “feel included and supported” and our ambition is that “equality, diversity and inclusion is seen as a major asset” for a better working environment.
The Pride March, which runs through the City of Southampton, will depart from Queen’s Park at 11:00 and end at Guildhall Square at approximately 12 noon. All members of the University, whether connected to the Pulse LGBT+ Network or not, are invited to meet up at 10:30 am at Queen’s Park to join in the March and celebrate the diversity of the University community. If you would like to join us in Queen’s Park on the day the What Three Words spot is fails.hatch.bunks.
Southampton Pride started in 2016 and 5,000 people participated in the first year and it has become bigger each year. Last year’s event was the largest attendance yet with over 17,000 members of the public joining in.
The celebrations will be at the Pride Village in Guildhall Square, and there will be a Pride Market Square to browse and talk to stall holders, from charities and businesses supporting the LGBT+ community.
