Upcoming Professional Services moves

There are some upcoming changes to how we use our space at the University, and some Professional Services teams are being asked to move location for the time they spend on campus.

We’re continuing to grow

The University is in an excellent position. We have an ambitious growth strategy; student numbers are anticipated to increase, and we’re recruiting more staff to support them. As a result, there is an increased pressure on our space that we’ve not felt before.

The University has learned a lot from how we worked during Covid, our Future Ways of Working pilots, and the information received via the Team Charters that are being completed. By making some changes to team locations and asking people to share desks where suitable, we can begin to maximise our use of space and recreate the vibrant campus atmosphere we had before Covid.

Reducing our carbon footprint

These changes will also support our sustainability ambitions. Going into the autumn and winter months, we want to avoid heating and lighting large office spaces where only a few staff are working, as heating our buildings is one of the most significant contributors to our University’s carbon footprint.

Leading the way

Professional Services are leading the way in exploring how we can use our space more effectively and collaboratively. As a result, some teams are moving over the next couple of months, with the most significant moves being:

  • The Change Portfolio Office are moving out of Building 37 and over to Building 35
  • Research and Innovation Services are moving from Building 28 into Building 37
  • The Leadership and Management Development team are joining some of HR in Building 26
  • Some embedded teams in faculties have recently moved into Building 37

Once these changes have been made, we can understand more about how we use our space and what we need. We know that colleagues are asking for different kinds of space (quiet, focused, collaborative etc.), and we are committed to including these in the future as we learn more about how we work on campus.
