The Modernising Student Experience project (MSE), now in its second year, aims to enhance the support and services we offer our students so they can thrive at the University of Southampton.
To achieve this, we are:
- Enabling students to complete straight forward, transactional tasks quickly and easily themselves
- Ensuring that support is easy to find on campus, as well as online
- Offering students welcoming, vibrant environments in our Student Hubs to promote a sense of community and belonging
- Providing our students with accessible and inclusive support and excellent service that allows them to focus on their studies and make memories that will last a lifetime.
The project has already achieved significant milestones such as the development of our first Student Hub in Building 37 at Highfield campus, and the addition of over 200 helpful articles to an online student knowledge base.
To date, the project has been led by sponsor Kerry Matthews, Director of Student and Education Services, with support from colleagues across other professional services and faculties.
Kerry Matthews commented: “The MSE project has driven positive change across the University in the last couple of years and it has been my pleasure to act as the project’s sponsor. The project places great emphasis on a ‘student first’ experience, and as such we have spent a lot of time engaging with our student community through Co-Design Panels to help us understand more about their expectations and how these can be met.
“I’d like to extend my thanks to the colleagues who have worked with the project team to help us achieve our goals so far. I know the project remains a key priority for the University, as reflected in our new Education and Student Experience Strategic Plan, and it will continue to deliver benefits across the whole University community”.
Kelly Holder will now be taking over as Project Sponsor on the next phase of delivering this project in line with the new University strategy.
Over the coming months, we’ll continue to collaborate with students and staff to review and refine processes to make things simpler and more efficient, as well as establishing further Student Hubs such as the one set to open in the University’s newly acquired Sir James Matthews building.
