UKRI to increase stipends for doctoral research students from 1 October 2022

The University has welcomed a decision by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to increase the stipends of the doctoral research students they fund by 10%.

The minimum stipend from 1 October 2022 will be £17,668 for full-time UKRI-funded students.

As the largest single funder of doctoral students, the University sector had been waiting for UKRI to decide on the level and details of their support package.

Now that the UKRI decision on stipends is clear, the University will this week explore options for students who are funded by non-UKRI funders. This will need to involve discussions with non-UKRI external funders.

Further updates will follow as soon as possible.
