The results from this year’s National Student Survey (NSS) are in, and we have maintained a strong overall satisfaction score of 79%. The NSS runs annually from February – April and your feedback helps us to improve your overall experience at University, as well as the student experience for your peers. In total, 67% of those in their final year provided your feedback and we thank you for that.
The results show improvement in areas that the University has focused on over the past year. Learning Resources and Learning Community have seen an increase in satisfaction in this year’s survey, following additional funding in electronic and academic resources, infrastructure, and other new services across our Libraries.
The University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) has seen the biggest rise of the year within the NSS results with them now scoring highly within the Russell Group. Oliver Murray, Union President, said: “The NSS results are a demonstration of the positive work and impact the Union has been able to have representing students across the University. By working closely with our student representatives and championing student voice, I’m looking forward to continuing this hard work into the new academic year.”
Deborah Gill, Vice-President Education and Student Experience, also added: “The NSS is a valuable tool for us to understand more about our students’ needs. Looking into our results our students are telling us they’re intellectually stimulated and the courses are well organised, but also that we can improve our dialogue with our students and our assessment practice.”
What’s next?
The NSS 2022 results highlight areas that are working well but also areas of further development. As a result over the coming academic year we will be placing an even greater focus on areas of teaching, learning, and assessment.
Looking to the future, these achievements and positive results can only encourage our University to strive for more. Strategic plans for multiple areas of the University are being developed under the umbrella of the new University strategy, including a brand new Education and Student Experience plan, which will bring fresh focus, ideas and improvements to student life at the University of Southampton.
