Improvements to Burgess Road

The University has been notified by Southampton City Council of roadworks to create improvements to Burgess Road.

The University has campaigned for improvements to be made to the junction between Burgess Road and Glen Eyre Road to increase the safety for our staff and students.

The scheme will improve pedestrian and cycle connections between our Glen Eyre Halls of Residence and Highfield Campus. The scheme will increase the width of the current southbound cycle lane on Glen Eyre Road, cycle signals will be installed, pedestrian kerbs will be widened, and pedestrian crossings will be upgraded.

In order to facilitate the scheme there will be two sets of roadworks. The first begins on Monday 3 October and will run for two weeks. Burgess Road will be closed between The Avenue and Hill Lane for two weeks. The section of the road that will be closed is highlighted in red on the map below.

Diversions will be put in place for anyone who travels via that route.

Roadworks at the junction of Burgess Road and Glen Eyre Road begin on Monday 17 October and will be in place for seven weeks. Access in all directions will be maintained via 3-way temporary traffic lights. Both sets of roadworks may add time onto your usual journey.
